Today in class we discussed reform plans for the presidential nomination process, took notes on party organization, and started our study of voting. Reminder: Don't forget the party vocabulary quiz is on Tuesday. BLOCK: If you were absent, get the notes on the federal bureaucracy and the cabinet. You also need to define the responsiblities of the cabinet departments. The test is tenatively scheduled for Wednesday. SKINNY:
On Wednesday we identified criticisms of the presidential nomination process AND completed the following short writing assignment: In your opinion, what are the top two problems of the current presidential nomination process? Why are these problems? How would you reform it? Why is this a better idea? (Use complete sentences) On Thursday we reviewed nomination procedures, including reviewing the pros and cons of open v. closed primiaries. There will be a QUIZ over political party vocabulary terms on TUESDAY! BLOCK: On Wednesday, we identified pros and cons of each Electoral College Reform Plan and completed the followign short writing assignment: Should the Electoral College be reformed?
On Thursday we identified the powers of the President as defined in Article II AND the powers of the Vice President as defined by the Constitution. We also took notes on the expansion of presidential power. SKINNY:
