HW: Interest group presentations will begin on Thursday. 1 PC due on 3/23. 1 PC due before you leave for spring break. Today in class we worked in groups to discuss four Supreme Court cases.
Test is tomorrow! Bring a #2 pencil! Today in class we:
1. Finished our notes on the judiciary. If you were absent, BE SURE TO GET THE NOTES FROM A FRIEND! 2. Completed a cooperative learning assignment. If you were absent, THINK ABOUT the strengths and weaknesses of judicial activism and judicial restraint. BE PREPARED TO DISCUSS THIS ON MONDAY. HOMEWORK: FOR MONDAY - Find the following: a. What is the sixth amendment protection? How has the Supreme Court interpreted this? b. What is the fourth amendment protection? How has the Supreme Court interpreted this? c. What is the Exclusionary Rule? d. What is the Establishment Clause? (First Amendment) e. What protections are included in First Amendment freedom of speech. Also -- Test is Tuesday and Wednesday. Interest Group presentations will begin on Thursday. One political cartoon is due by 3/23. One political cartoon is due before you leave for spring break (no later than 3/29). Today in class we:
1. Discussed the bureaucracy questions (buddy system, Congressional control over the bureaucracy, Presidential control over the bureaucracy). If you were absent, get the notes from a friend -- specifically, ask to see the list of how Congress controls the bureaucracy and how the President controls the bureaucracy. 2. Discussed the lower federal courts. If you were absent, ask a friend to see the notes they took during discussion (especially how the chart relates to the levels of courts). 3. Worked in groups to discuss the activist/restraint reading from Monday. Juniors -- you do not have to write out the questions for this cooperative learning assignment, but I do want you to pay close attention to the discussion on Friday. 4. Took notes on the Historical Eras of the Court. Be sure to get the notes from a friend. Homework: Read the activist/restraint reading (in the Thursday folder). Test on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. Interest Group presentation AFTER next week's test. Monday - Today we took notes on the judicial branch. We also read an article about judicial activism and judicial restraint.
Tentative Test - Tuesday, March 13th and Wednesday, March 14th! Tuesday and Wednesday - No class due to ACT/MME testing. Today in class we finished our study of the federal bureaucracy. Specifically we:
1. Discussed the bureaucratic pathologies. 2. Discussed why the bureaucratic pathologies exist. 3. Discussed why it is difficult to reform the bureaucracy. 4. Discussed the ways that both Congress and the President can limit the bureacracy. 5. Discussed the influences on bureaucratic decision making. 6. Answered two questions about the bureaucracy. Homework: Finish reading Chapters 13 and 14. Define the judicial branch vocabulary terms. Remember: Test after MME week. Wednesday, February 29th - NO SCHOOL! Happy Leap Day! :)
