Today in class we finished our study of US Unit I. We took notes on American Political Culture (Chapter 4) and discussed issues related to federalism and political culture.

1. Discussed devolution, including second and third order devolution AND causes of devolution. 2. Finished our notes on federalism. Be sure to get the notes from a friend. 3. Read and discussed a case study about the Clean Air Act. 4. Completed a cooperative learning assignment on federalism. Homework: 1. Read Chapter 4 by tomorrow. 2. Test is TUESDAY and WEDNESDAY. 3. Paper is due on November 7th. 4. Extra Credit - November 3rd; 7:30 PM; Dunning Memorial Chapel; Alma College Today in class we continued our study of federalism, including learning about the difference between dual federalism and cooperative federalism. We also looked at fiscal federalism.
The homework for tonight is: 1. Review the pros and cons of federalism. 2. Answer: What is devolution? What drives devolution? 3. Read Chapter 4 by Friday. 4. Test is Tuesday/Wednesday. 5. Paper is due November 7th. If you were absent today, you missed:
1 A pop quiz! 2. Notes on the evolution of federalism 3. A discussion of McCulloch v. Maryland 4. A video and discussion about Gibbons v. Ogden Homework: Reading Test Friday/Tuesday Paper due November 7th Today in class we discussed the economic motives of the framers, as well as other issues related to Chapter 2 (constitutional change, for example). We also started our study of federalism and the court decision in McCulloch v. Maryland.
Homework: You should have read Chapter 3 by now. Please read Chapter 4 by Thursday. The paper is due on Monday, November 7th. You need to have your topic approved. The test is tentatively scheduled for Friday (multiple choice) and Tuesday (free response). Today in class we reviewed the major arguments of the Federalists and the Anti-Federalists. We also reviewed the compromise between the two (the agreement to add a Bill of Rights). If you were absent, be sure to get the handouts from the Friday folder. You will also want to complete the following short writing assignment:
If you had been alive at the time of the Constitutional Convention, would you have been in favor of ratification of the Constitution? Why or why not? Which Federalist/Anti-Federalist position(s) do you find to be the most convincing? Reminders: The CE Projects are due by 8am Sunday. Read Chapter 3 for Monday.
