Today in class we discussed the sovereignty reading from yesterday.

If you were absent, consider these questions:
1.    Why do many post-colonial states lack internal sovereignty?

2.    What are the threats to state sovereignty?

3.    Explain how each of the factors (in #2) is a potential threat to state sovereignty.

4.  Is membership in an international organization dangerous for a state?

We also worked to describe the four comparative themes (from Kesselman).

Homework:
Bring Kesselman to class tomorrow.
CE due Tuesday.
Test Oct. 1 and 2.
Begin reading US Chapter 1 for Oct. 3rd.

Today in class we finished our research on international organizations.  We also completed a reading ("Sovereignty") and worked in cooperative groups to begin discussing the reading.

Today in class we finished our study of O'Neil Chapter 4 (political-economic systems).  We also went to the library to research international/supranational organizations.

Read Kesselman 13-24 by Wednesday.
CE due Tuesday.  Please submit on form.
Test next week.

Today in class we discussed the referendum in Scotland, continued our study of economic concepts, and considered differences between the four political economic systems.  If you were absent, be sure to get the notes from a friend.

Happy Constitution Day!
Today we played some Constitution trivia and then watched two video clips about the Constitutional Convention.  

We also discussed causes and solutions of ethnic/national conflict AND took notes on the political ideologies and the political attitudes.

Homework:
Start reading Chapter 4 by Friday (96-106) and finish the chapter by Monday.
1st CE Project is due on Friday.
Test will be the week of September 30th.

Today in class we completed our notes on the 6 comparative country profiles (Nigeria) and received the Current Events Project assignment.  We also discussed issues related to weak and failed states.

Homework:
Quiz tomorrow.
Extra Credit discussion posts due by Wednesday.
Finish reading Chapter 3
1st CE project due on Friday.
