Current Events Project due today!!!!

Today in class we finished our study of Comparative Unit I.  Specifically we read and discussed the article "Sovereignty", finished our study of supranational organizations, and discussed the threat to sovereignty (and democratic deficit) of supranational member states.

We also discussed hints for writing well on the free response portion of the test.

HW - Study for tomorrow's test.


Monday, September 23rd AND Tuesday, September 24th

On MONDAY we worked to identify the differences between the four political economic systems.  We also discussed the pros and cons of the four political economic systems.

On TUESDAY we completed our study of Comparative Chapter 4 and then worked to identify responsibilities of supranational organizations.

HW:  CE due on Wednesday;  Test on Thursday and Friday.

Today in class we:
  • took a quiz.  :)
  • Discussed Part IIIB of the Summer Assignment
  • Continued our study of chapter 3 -- be sure to get the notes from a friend.


Homework:
Finish reading Chapter 3 and start reading Chapter 4.  Read Chapter 4 as soon as possible, but no later than Monday.

CHANGE IN CE DATES:  ONE CE is due on WEDNESDAY, September 24th.  NO CE due on September 27th.  NO CE due on October 4th.

Test - end of next week. (tentative)

Today in class we recognized Constitution Day and then continued our study of Comparative Politics.

For our study of comparative politics we:
- Discussed Part IIIA of the Summer Assignment.
- Took notes on Chapter 3.

- Read pages 56-75 by tomorrow.
- QUIZ TOMORROW (Wednesday)
- Read the remainder of Chapter 3 by Thursday.
- CE Project due on Friday.

Read pages 44-56 by Tuesday;  Read 56-75 by Wednesday.

Today in class we continued our study of the Failed States Index.  We also discussed the results of the study in class.

The first CE project was due today.

Homework:
Read pages 44-56 by Tuesday and 56-75 by Wednesday.
1 CE project is due on Friday.  If you did a US topic this week, do a comparative topic next week.  If you did comparative this week, do US next week.

Today in class we continued our study of the concept of the state, exploring the Failed States Index.  We will continue our study tomorrow.

Remember that your first CE project is due tomorrow, as is the $85 test fee and the powerschool printout.

HW:  Read p. 44-56 by Monday and 56-75 by Wednesday.

Today in class we:
  • Discussed the consequences of centralizing and decentralizing power.
  • Completed the following in-class writing:  Is a federal system better than a unitary system for democracy?  If so, why?  If not, why not? 
  • Finished our notes on Chapter 2.
  • Discussed the article "The Nature of Nation-State Failure" in cooperative groups.  If you were absent, please answer the following questions:
         1. How does the author define a failed state?  What are the specific characteristics of a failed state?
         2. How does this article/knowledge about failed states relate to what you know about:
            a. Legitimacy
            b. Capacity
            c. Autonomy
        3. Are weak states dangerous?  Are they a threat to world peace?  Explain.


Homework:
1 CE due on Friday.
$85 due on Friday.
PowerSchool printout due on Friday.
Read 44-56 by Monday.
Read 56-75 by Wednesday.
