Today in class we continued our study of the Electoral College. We discussed potential weaknesses of the Electoral College, as well as ideas for reforming it. We also began our study of the powers of the President. We looked at the expressed powers of the President (as stated in Article II of the Constitution) and discussed the responsibilities of the President.
Homework: Paper is due THURSDAY! Please read Chapter 12 by Tuesday, January 4th. Today in class we:
1. Completed the legislative branch discussion. 2. Completed the following short writing: Why do you think the Founders created a presidential system rather than a parliamentary system? 3. Started our study of the executive branch by taking introductory notes on the Presidency, the Vice Presidency, and the Electoral College. HW: Paper due Thursday at 11:59 PM. Today in class we finished our notes on the legislative branch and had a discussion about the legislative branch.

Today in class we completed a cooperative learning assignment on redistricting. We also identified the powers of Congress, as stated in Article I of the Constitution. We also took notes on Congressional leadership and identified the different types of Congressional committees. The homework is to complete discussion questions #6 and 7 -- due Friday. Thursday, December 9th Today we went to the library to play The Redistricting Game. If you were absent, go to the game website and play a round or two. It's not as easy as it looks! Have fun! Here is the link: The Redistricting Game We also discussed redistricting (both the cooperative learning from yesterday AND today's game. Remember that a CE Project is due tomorrow. Also, remember that you have a paper due on 12/23. Finally, you need to complete discussion question #5 for Monday. Today in class we took notes on reapportionment and redistricting and identified rules for redistricting. We also took notes on Congressional Leadership.
