Today in class we discussed platform differences between Republicans and Democrats. We also reviewed the functions of political parties and started notes on nomination procedures.

We also discussed reasons that the 2-party system is not in decline, as well as differences between the Republican Party and the Democratic Party. Reminders: 1. Read Chapter 8 2. Finish Party Era Chart. 3. Cartoon due 3/24. 4. Test before Spring Break. Today in class we completed the political party preference quiz found at isidewith.com. If you were absent, you should take the quiz, being sure to answer all questions (including additional questions) AND ranking each question. When you get your results, record the following:
1. With which party do you most closely align? Include both the highest ranked THIRD party AND the highest ranked MAJOR party. Record the percentage for each. 2. What is the percentage for the other MAJOR party? 3. What is your ideology? (See the Ideology Chart toward the bottom of the results page). Reminders: 1. Bring your scantron on Monday. 2. Completed the following journal writing: Is public opinion polling good for democracy? Why might it be bad for democracy? The homework is to conduct the assigned public opinion poll. Due tomorrow. There is no political cartoon due this week. Today in class we discussed the electoral gender gap and the partisan gender gap. We also finished our study of factors of political socialization.
